I am so angry right now...

This whole debacle over the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Planned Parenthood has really pissed me off! The more that I think about it, the angrier I get.  I have never been an active donor to either group, but when I get paid on Friday I will be making a donation to PP and when I go shopping this weekend, I will NOT buy any product that gives to Komen. Yes, it is their money to dispense, that is fine give it where you want. MY donation is initially MY choice and I will give accordingly. I also take issue with the idea that this wasn't a political decision. BULL SHIT! It was absolutely a political decision and I would have at least been able to respect the decision by having an honest discussion about it.

The last time that I checked, abortion is still legal in this country. There is also the freedom in this country to practice your religious beliefs. If you don't believe in abortion then don't have one. Your beliefs do NOT get to dictate my beliefs or actions. If they do, then we as a country really don't have the right to lecture any other country on how THEIR religious beliefs affect the women who live there.

New recipe for breakfast

One of my downfalls as far as eating fast food is that I don't have time to cook breakfast in the morning. I found this basic recipe in Healthy Cooking's December 2011 issue. The recipe in the magazine makes 12, but since it is just me I cut it down to where it made 6.  I can grab this in the morning with a piece of fruit, toast and some milk. Best of all, I can eat it at work and there is very little clean-up.

Scrambled Egg & Sausage Muffin

6 eggs
¼ lb sausage
¼ chopped sweet green pepper
¼ chopped onion
1/8  tsp pepper
¼ tsp salt
1/8 tsp garlic
¼ C shredded Cheddar cheese

1)      1)  Cook sausage over medium heat; drain
2)      2)  Beat eggs
3)      3)  Mix green pepper, onion, pepper, salt and garlic into eggs
4)      4)  Mix sausage and cheese into egg mixture
5)       5) Fill greased ( I use cooking spray) muffin pan about ¾ full
6)       6) Bake on 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes

Week 1 wrap-up

Good morning everyone. It is a sunny 52 degrees here in Haymarket today. I just wanted to check in and let you know how my week has been. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being awesome. I would give this week a 6.

Diet wise have have done really well this week. I have not had any fast food at all. I have eaten veggies at every meal. All in all, that is a big deal for me.

I attended the funeral of a wonderful man early in the week. He lived a long life and he didn't suffer, still, I will miss his gentle spirit in my life.  Ollie truly was one of my favorite people.

Work was mostly okay. I need to come up with some kind of system to keep from getting stressed on super busy days. I need to think about that.

I joined the gym today. There is one near my house, but it doesn't have a pool. Instead I joined one near the office. It does have a pool and offers a water fitness class 3 times a week after work. I have my fitness assessment on Monday after work.

Today I am getting my hair trimmed and colored. That always makes me feel better. Tonight I am planning to go out for dinner and dancing (okay watching) with friends.

I also took a step toward reaching #3 on my goals for the year. I booked my flight to New Orleans for the weekend of my birthday.

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend!

First Day Back to Work

Today was really the first test. I got up and ate a good breakfast, but then I had a funeral to attend. There was a luncheon after the service and while the food isn't what I would have chosen, I did have a salad, no dessert and drank water. I am working late tonight and so I had dinner here at the office. I brought it from home and have some almonds to snack on later. So far so good. :)

January 2, 2012

I didn't do much today. I did finish cooking my meals for the week. I cleaned out my closet and have a bag of clothes to give to charity. I also, started going through the storage area and cleaning up. As I type this I realize that I have done more than I thought I did. :)

Real life starts again tomorrow. I have a funeral to attend and then it is off to work. It is the beginning of the month and time to do statements.  I also need to decide who gets final notice letters. Not my favorite thing to do, but it has to be done.

I did well with food today. LOTS of veggies. :)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! I'm not a big "party" person and I spent New Year's Eve at home. I hung out with  Glenda & Craig and their girls. I watched them play Just Dance, we made cookies and watched Dick Clark ring in the new year.

I tweeted with my friends, who are all over the world, and went to bed happy.  I slept until 10 am this morning. I haven't done that in I don't know how long. It felt so good.

So I have not eaten any fast food food today. I had eggs, toast and applesauce for brunch and Spinach Artichoke Pizza for dinner. It was topped with fresh baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, corn, chicken and mozzerella cheese.

I have decided that a "diet" is not going to work for me. I am too picky an eater. I have food rules and I do not violate them. 1) no slimy food 2) no internal organs 3) no fungus. Also, I really don't like yogurt or cottage cheese. Given these issues I am going to go see a nutritionist. In the meantime I am trying to find tricks to get enough fruits and veggies in my diet. I need to work on Calcium too, but one step at a time.

I hope that all of you had a safe and happy new year. :)
